about

A set of traditional words originally entitled 'Hark The Summons' that Nina found in a 1903 copy of 'Songs Of The British Islands' edited by W. H. Hadow and instantly fell in love with the Christmassy feel and the sense of family, joy and celebration free of worries.

The original setting didn't grab quite as much, so as with a lot of the traditional songs on the previous albums, Nina composed new music for the words and the rest of the band jumped straight into adding bits that complimented the new setting.

lyrics

Hark the summons come my fellows, fa la la la la laa.
Crown your hats with holly berry, fa la ...
Hark the peeling bells that tell us, fa la ...
Tis the eve of new year merry

Shepherds quit your cares for pleasure, fa la ...
Fishers leave your nets and wherry, fa la ...
This must be a night of leisure, fa la ...
Tis the eve of new year merry

Toil and trouble lie behind us, fa la ...
Think no more of chances dreary, fa la ...
While the well known strains remind us, fa la ...
Tis the eve of new year merry

Quick join hands and foot it featly, fa la ...
In the dance we ne'er can weary, fa la ...
To the harp that sounds so sweetly, fa la ...
On the eve of new year merry

To the harp that sounds so sweetly, fa la ...
On the eve of new year merry
